Find info concerning Allen County Community College solar thermal energy, registering for elective courses, and taking practice exams for free online. Which college degrees offer you the best chances of finding employment after graduation? If you complete the solar thermal energy program, for example, there are a variety of specializations that may appeal to you such as renewable energy development, materials science, or mechanical engineering. Further, due to advances in solar technology, there is a growing shortage of graduates in solar thermal energy, and highly-skilled engineers in general.
The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) leads public research in innovative solar power technologies. Photovoltaic arrays, or PV for short, harness the sun’s power and turn it into electricity. When the sun shines onto a solar panel, photons are absorbed by the cells in the panel, which creates an electric field across the layers. Photovoltaic arrays must be mounted on a stable, durable structure that tilts the PV array at a fixed angle determined by the local latitude. To obtain the highest annual energy output, modules in the northern hemisphere are pointed due south and inclined at an angle equal to the local latitude. Alternatively, automatic mechanisms may be installed to move panels to track the sun across the sky, which provides more energy and a higher return on investment (ROI). Inverters are used to convert the direct current (DC) electricity generated by solar photovoltaic modules into alternating current (AC). Finally, large batteries allow for the storage of solar photovoltaic energy when bad weather blocks sunlight from reaching the photovoltaic panels.
Organic PV, or OPV, cells are composed of carbon-rich polymers and can be tailored to enhance a specific function of the cell, such as sensitivity to a certain type of light. This technology has the theoretical potential to provide electricity at a lower cost than silicon or thin-film technologies. Concentration PV, also known as CPV, focuses sunlight onto a solar cell by using a mirror or lens. By focusing sunlight onto a small area, less PV material is required. This technology uses mirrors to reflect and concentrate sunlight onto receivers that collect solar energy and convert it to heat, which can then be used to produce electricity.

Environmental Engineering Programs
Environmental engineers use the principles of engineering, soil science, biology, and chemistry to develop solutions to public health problems. They are involved in efforts to improve recycling, manage waste disposal, and promote reclamation of contaminated sites after accidental contamination. Environmental engineering technicians carry out the plans that environmental engineers develop, including testing and operating equipment used to clean up air and water pollution. They may collect samples for testing, or they may study the environmental impact of proposed construction projects.Environmental engineers may be called upon to design municipal water supply systems, and industrial wastewater treatment methods. They must evaluate the watershed, and balance the demand against available reserves. In the case of drinking water, treatment focuses on minimizing the risk of infectious diseases, and ensuring adequate distribution. In the field of air pollution management, environmental engineers devise ways to minimize emissions from vehicle exhausts and industrial gas stacks. To some extent, this field overlaps the attempt to decrease carbon dioxide levels, in order to combat global warming. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is one of the principal agencies that work with environmental engineers to protect and improve air, water, and overall environmental quality. Environmental engineering technicians holding an associates degree may earn $48,650 per year, while environmental engineers who have a bachelor's degree can earn as much as $79,500 annually.

Engineering Job Listings
The Fundamentals of Engineering exam should be taken immediately after earning a bachelors degree from an ABET-accredited program. Engineers who pass this exam are called engineers in training (EIT), or engineer interns. After meeting work experience requirements, engineer interns can attempt a second certifying exam, called the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam. Thereafter, acquisition of a professional engineering license enables management of junior engineers, the ability to sign off on engineering projects, and provide services directly to the public. Wages vary by employer and location. Aside from salary, most engineering jobs include excellent benefits, as well as retirement plans.Links below are updated hourly: | Starting Salary (up to) |
